Taking as object of study the students of the Atheneu Sergipense State College denominated as "extranhos", this article aims to analyze these students, in order to identify the criteria used as reference to designate them as such. In addition, we sought to trace the profile and the representation of the secondary students analyzed in the present study, in order to identify the affiliation, naturalness, form of entry in the aforementioned educational institution, as well as the aspects related to the grades of these students, investigating if there is any relation of nomenclature given to the averages obtained by them. The initial time frame is justified because the year 1925 was the first year in which a document was found that referred to the students named as "aliens" and the final mark, since 1934 is the last year in which this denomination appears documents relating to the students. The methodology used was the documentation stored in the Center of Education and Memory of Atheneu Sergipense (CEMAS), which is: the books of record, punishments, enrollments, regulations and written tests. Besides these, we also used the legislation of the time in order to verify if the "strangers" were regulated by law and in what form it was givenTomando como objeto de estudo os alunos do colégio Estadual Atheneu Sergipense denominados como “estranhos”, este artigo tem por objetivo analisar os discentes, a fim de identificar os critérios utilizados como referência para designá-los de tal forma. Ademais, buscamos traçar o perfil e a representação dos secundaristas analisados no presente estudo, de modo a identificar a filiação, naturalidade, forma de ingresso na instituição de ensino supracitada, bem como os aspectos relativos às notas destes discentes, investigando se há alguma relação da nomenclatura dada às médias obtidas pelos mesmos. O marco temporal inicial justifica-se por ser o ano de 1925 o primeiro em que foi localizado um documento que fazia referência aos alunos nomeados como “extranhos” e o marco final, por ser o ano de 1934 o último ano em que essa denominação aparece nos documentos relativos aos alunos. As fontes utilizadas na pesquisa fazem parte do acervo do Centro de Educação e Memória do Atheneu Sergipense (CEMAS), quais sejam: livros de registro, de punições, matrículas, regulamentos e provas escritas, além da legislação da época a fim de verificar se os “extranhos” eram regulamentados por lei e de que forma isso se dava.
