This work‟s scope was to research the storytellers. It is known that the storytellers are part of human history since its beginning. And some of their traces can be found on the cave walls in as drawings in many parts of the world. The storytelling is related to the exchange of experiences, the preservation of memory, the educational and recreational activities. However, even with reports of the professional practice of some storytellers since the sixteenth century, with the passage of time, there were several social changes that apparently indicated that there would be a setback in this activity. Although, by performing a (re-) reading of this practice, some of the today storytellers have been finding in the storytelling a way of entertainment as well as a work field. They work in different public and private spaces. Concerning to the tax breaks for cultural practices, the government has shown by creating some laws that culture needs to be valued, not only for his unquestionable representative value of ways of living and relate in society, but also for its ability to generate wealth and produce income, in other words, for its socio-economic importance. Thus, it became interesting to conduct a reflection of how the Brazilian Constitutions, as it is at the top of the legal system, contemplated over time, the actions for Culture. However, it was needed to approach more closely the 1988 Constitution, as this is the Brazilian Constitution which is currently operating. In this research, we also highlight how culture, the storytellers themselves and their narratives were widespread in the cultural scenario of the city of Uberlândia. Showing thus some of its achievements, troubles and perspectives to act in a professional manner, with the art of telling a story.Mestre em HistóriaEste trabalho teve como enfoque os contadores de histórias. Sabe-se que os contadores de história fazem parte da história da humanidade desde os seus primórdios. E que alguns de seus vestígios podem ser encontrados nas paredes das cavernas, na forma de desenhos rupestres em várias partes do mundo. A contação de histórias está relacionada às trocas de experiências, à preservação da memória, às atividades educativas e recreativas. Contudo, mesmo havendo relatos da atuação profissional de alguns contadores de histórias desde o século XVI, com o passar do tempo, houve várias mudanças sociais que aparentemente indicavam que haveria um retrocesso nesta atividade. No entanto, realizando uma (re)leitura desta prática, alguns contadores de histórias do presente têm encontrado nas contações de histórias tanto uma forma de entretenimento como uma forma de trabalho. Atuam em diferentes espaços públicos e privados. No campo dos incentivos fiscais destinados às práticas culturais, o Governo tem demonstrado através da criação de algumas leis que a cultura precisa ser valorizada, não somente por seu inquestionável valor representativo das formas de viver e conviver das pessoas em sociedade, mas também por sua capacidade de gerar riquezas e produzir renda, ou seja, por sua importância socioeconômica. Sendo assim, tornou-se interessante realizarmos uma reflexão de como as Constituições brasileiras, que estão no topo do ordenamento jurídico, contemplaram com o decorrer do tempo, as ações voltadas para a Cultura. Contudo, foi necessário abordar com mais atenção a Constituição de 1988, por ser esta que ainda está em vigor na atualidade. Nesta pesquisa, destacamos também como a cultura, os próprios contadores de histórias e as suas narrativas foram difundidas no enredo cultural da cidade de Uberlândia. Evidenciando assim, algumas de suas conquistas, angústias e perspectivas ao atuarem de maneira profissional, com a arte de se contar uma história.
