Internet skills include operational and procedural, navigation and search, and content and source evaluation skills. This study has sought to examine the factorial structure of the Internet Skills Scale (ISS), and the relationship between self-reported Internet skills, Internet experience (frequency, and number and type of activities), and verbal ability, in a sample of college students. Participants completed the ISS, questionnaires about habitual Internet use, and the BAIRES Test. Data analyses relied on factorial analytic techniques for ordinal data, and generalized linear models. A three factors model for the ISS showed good fit. Operational and evaluation skills were associated with frequency of Internet use and number of activities. Navigation and search were associated with verbal ability. Las habilidades de Internet incluyen habilidades operacionales y procedimentales, de navegación y búsqueda, y de evaluación e integración de la información online. El objetivo del presente estudio ha sido evaluar la estructura factorial de la Escala de Habilidades de Internet, y la relación entre las habilidades obtenidas mediante autoinforme, la experiencia en Internet (frecuencia y actividades que se realizan online), y la aptitud verbal, en una muestra de jóvenes adultos universitarios. Completaron la Escala de Habilidades de Internet junto a otros cuestionarios de uso habitual de Internet y el Test BAIRES de aptitud verbal. Se analizaron los datos con análisis factorial para escala ordinal, y modelo lineal generalizado. Los resultados tuvieron buen ajuste a un modelo de tres factores. Las habilidades operacionales y de evaluación se asociaron con la frecuencia de uso de Internet y la cantidad de actividades. Las habilidades de navegación y búsqueda se asociaron a la aptitud verbal.
