Resumen
David Ausubel´s Meaningful Learning Theory stresses the importance of previous knowledge on the teaching learning process. According to the principles of meaningful learning, new information interacts with student‟s specific knowledge structure, called subsumers. It can be understood as pre-existing relevant concepts. In order to avoid rote learning in subsumers absence, Ausubel's theory suggests the use of materials called advance organizers, as scaffolding for new concepts. This study reports the production and application of a 3D short animation as an advance organizer. The film aims to help students understand the concept “Moment of a Force”, important to Physics Teaching. The animation was produced from the ground using free software, following the usual steps in production of such material. It was put into practice with high school students from Arapoti city, PR. Pre and post-tests were elaborated and used to evaluate the film effectiveness. The results indicate that the animated film worked satisfactorily to prepare the learners' cognitive structure, as well as to facilitate meaningful learning and allow better retention of the concept taught.
