Symptoms of depression among high school adolescentsSíntomas de depresión en estudiantes de enseñanza media de Santiago

Abstract

A search for symotoms of depression was done among male and female high school adolescents from two high schools at southern districts of metropolitan Santiago Chile. Subjects were asked to complete a set of self report questionnaires including a modified version of the Beck Depression Inventory. High scores of depressive symptoms (15.61 ± 9.79) in the whole sample as well as significant sex differences were observed, males being less affected than their female counter parts 113.96 ± 9.41 vs 16.89 ± 9.90; χ 2 = 8.67; p = 0.03).
