Porém, analisando apenas hortaliças consumidas in natura, o tomate se torna a principal. The tomato, Solanum lycopersicum L., is the second most important vegetable on the world stage, behind only potatoes. However, by analyzing only vegetables consumed in natura, the tomato becomes the main one. The objective of this work was to investigate the effect of four aeration levels (0, 64.25, 128.5, 192.75 liters) and two depths of air injection in the soil, 0.15 and 0.30 m. The experimental design was in a 4 x 2 factorial scheme with 6 replicates. The total mass, length and width of fruits were evaluated, in addition to the quality parameters: antioxidant content, acidity, soluble solids and color. As growth variables, leaf area, dry matter of root, stem and leaves were considered. Efficiency in water use and economic viability were calculated. The results indicated improvement in fruit productivity and quality with air insufflation in the 0.3 m layer. However, in the depth of 15 cm the aeration was not significant at any level for yield nor for the quality of the fruits
