The purpose of this research is to determine the incidence of institutional accreditation in the extension of coverage in Higher Education in the Colombian Caribbean. Even though coverage in the Colombian Caribbean has increased in recent decades, it is still low compared to the national average. It is evident that the emergence of the Accreditation of Higher Education Institutions has generated a better positioning for the Institutions of the Colombian Caribbean region. The methodology is approached from the positivist paradigm of quantitative cutting under a type of descriptive research, non-experimental design. It was taken from a population composed of 33 accredited educational institutions in the country, a sample composed of 7 accredited Higher Education Institutions and with coverage in the four departments belonging to the Colombian Caribbean: Barranquilla, Cartagena, Santa Marta and the San Andres Archipelago, Providencia and Santa Catalina. The results are determined based on statistics related to coverage and quality of the Higher Education Institutions accredited and analyzed in such a way that they allow to determine how the processes of institutional accreditation have influenced the expansion of the Higher Education coverage in the Colombian Caribbean. With the work developed and developed, relevant information on the incidence of accreditation in coverage is offered to the Colombian Caribbean education system.La presente investigación tiene como propósito determinar la incidencia de la acreditación institucional en la ampliación de la cobertura en Educación superior en el Caribe colombiano. Aun cuando de que la cobertura en el Caribe colombiano ha aumentado en las últimas décadas, ésta aún sigue siendo baja en comparación con la media nacional. Se evidencia que el surgimiento de la Acreditación de las Instituciones de Educación Superior, ha generado un mejor posicionamiento a las Instituciones de la región Caribe Colombiano. La metodología se aborda desde el paradigma positivista de corte cuantitativo bajo un tipo de investigación descriptiva, diseño no experimental. Se tomó de una población compuesta de 33 Instituciones educativas acreditadas en el país, una muestra compuesta por 7 Instituciones de Educación Superior acreditadas y con cobertura en los cuatro departamentos pertenecientes al Caribe colombiano: Barranquilla, Cartagena, Santa Marta y el Archipiélago de San Andrés, Providencia y Santa Catalina. Los resultados se determinan con base en estadísticas relacionadas con cobertura y calidad de las Instituciones de Educación superior acreditadas y analizadas de tal manera que permitan determinar cómo los procesos de acreditación institucional han incidido en la ampliación de la cobertura de Educación superior en el caribe colombiano. Con el trabajo elaborado y desarrollado se ofrece al sistema educativo del Caribe colombiano información relevante sobre la incidencia de la acreditación en la cobertura.
