Resumo O uso dos recursos naturais une os pescadores artesanais sergipanos das comunidades haliêuticas dos Povoados de: São José da Caatinga (Japaratuba), Marimbondo, Bebedouro e Aguilhadas (Pirambu), com o ambiente dulcícola do rio Japaratuba, onde ocorre uma intensa captura de Macrobrachium acanthurus. Para tentar compreender essa relação, foram realizadas 60 entrevistas com pescadores dessas localidades, sendo todos do gênero masculino, entre eles a faixa etária variou de 23 a 58 anos e 87% têm a pesca como sua única fonte de renda. O covo é o único apetrecho de pesca utilizado na pesca de M. acanthurus, confeccionados pelos próprios pescadores (92%). Os pescadores artesanais demonstraram possuir um amplo conhecimento à cerca da espécie, ao afirmarem que indivíduos de menor tamanho são mais abundantes entre novembro e abril. Desta forma, percebe-se a importância dos saberes populares desses pescadores ribeirinhos, para a manutenção e conservação dos pesqueiros ocupados pelo camarão M. acanthurus do rio Japaratuba.Abstract  The usage of natural resources gathers the sergipanos artisanal fishermen from the fishery communities from the towns: São José da Caatinga (Japaratuba), Marimbondo, Bebedouro e Aguilhadas (Pirambu), with the freshwater environment of Japaratuba River, where there is an intense capture of Macrobrachium acanthurus.  In order to understand this relationship, it was made 60 interviews with fishermen of this towns. They are all male, between them the age group varied from 23 to 58 years old and 87% have the fishing as they only source of money. The covo is the only fishing instrument used in the fishing of M. acanthurus, made by they own (92%). The artisanal fishermen showed to have a wide knowledge about the species, when they affirm that small size shrimps are more abundant between November and April. Then, we can notice the importance of the popular knowledges of these riverine fishermen, to the maintenance and conservation of the occupied fishing grounds by the M. acanthurus shrimp of Japaratuba River.
