CTI Renato Archer (Campinas-SP) cordinated a research project involving fifteen Brazilian, one Portuguese and one Mexican voluntary institutions, whose objective was to map information technology systems and management in hospitals. The methodology was based on an original and innovative instrument, a questionary with about 100 questions, which has been developing by GESITI project, from CTI. The questionary, in turn, it has been based on previous and general managements experiences of some programs OECD - Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development and UNCTAD - United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, as adjusted by the CTI Group GESITI towards Health. Hospitals, by their complexity, diversity and size, have a specific set of challenges and deserve special attention. The goal of the group GESITI/Health from CTI, is to develop a characterization and evaluation of information technology management systems in hospitals in various countries. This article presents the results of this study in case of a Portuguese hospital in the north region. Among other things, the management structure, the technologies and the use of electronic commerce and characterized.
