In this monograph we reflect on the formation of the first Sergipe towns and their devotional practices. Grounded in the field of cultural history with an emphasis on history and religion, this research aimed to make an analytical study on the installation process of the first Sergipe Catholic devotions, especially in the period on the establishment of the initial seven core territory of the ancient settlement of Captaincy Sergipe D'El Rey, understand the years of its conquest by the Portuguese in 1590 and the formation of the seventh Sergipe village in 1718. it is true that other devotions could be bandied about in this project, considering the presence of indigenous and black ethnic groups in pregnancy of Sergipe. Despite the extension of this contract and religious hegemony of the Catholic Church, we limit ourselves to this scenario. Thus, we are interested in thinking the concept of devotion to Catholicism circumscribed the level of representation installed in Brazil for Portugal, under the hosts of Rome, realizing the particularities of this evangelization project and its relation to the achievement and the development of the captaincy. So, refer to the belief conception formulated by Michel de Certeau as the foundation of this reflection on the devotion. The research deals with the religious experience of concepts such as object in the field of history (Certau, 1996), representation (Chartier, 1990) and symbolic / religious field power (Bourdieu, 2004). Methodologically work consisti the sources of analysis of the presence of the Catholic Church in Sergipe present in various institutions and places of memory including the State of Rio de Janeiro, and especially the city of Salvador, containing the documentation of the Archive of the Diocese of Salvador, which belonged Sergipe until the creation of the Diocese of Aracaju, in 1910. Aside from that, sources on the Sergipe Catholicism available in the Public Archives of Sergipe, Judicial archive, IHGSE, PDPH and parishes studied here. This research is the result of a monograph in History / UFS and is in progress. Interest in this research is the importance of studies corroborating the History and the Religion of Sergipe.Nesta monografia buscamos refletir sobre a formação das primeiras vilas sergipanas e suas práticas devocionais. Embasada no campo da História Cultural com ênfase em História e Religião, esta investigação objetivou fazer um estudo analítico a respeito do processo de instalação das primeiras devoções católicas sergipanas, sobretudo no período referente à criação dos sete núcleos iniciais de povoamento do território da antiga Capitania de Sergipe D´El Rey, compreendo os anos de sua conquista pelos portugueses, em 1590 e a formação da sétima vila sergipana em 1718. É bem verdade que outros tipos de devoções poderiam ser aventados nesse projeto, considerando a presença das etnias indígena e negra na gestação de Sergipe. Em que pese à extensão dessa empreitada e a hegemonia religiosa da Igreja Católica, nos limitaremos a este cenário. Desse modo, interessa-nos pensar o conceito de devoção circunscrito ao nível de representação do catolicismo instalado no Brasil por Portugal, sob as hostes de Roma, percebendo as particularidades desse projeto de evangelização e sua relação com a conquista e com o desenvolvimento da capitania. Assim, remetemos à concepção de crença formulada por Michel de Certeau como fundamento da presente reflexão sobre a devoção. A pesquisa versa sobre os conceitos de vivência do religioso como objeto no campo da história (Certau, 1996), representação (Chartier, 1990) e poder simbólico/campo religioso (BOURDIEU, 2004). Metodologicamente este trabalho consisti na análise de fontes sobre a presença da Igreja Católica em Sergipe presentes em diversas instituições e lugares de memória incluindo as do Estado do Rio de Janeiro e, principalmente a cidade de Salvador, contendo a documentação do Arquivo da Diocese de Salvador, da qual pertenceu Sergipe até a criação da Diocese de Aracaju, em 1910. Afora isso, fontes sobre o catolicismo sergipano disponíveis no Arquivo Público de Sergipe, no Arquivo do Judiciário, IHGSE, PDPH e nas paróquias aqui estudadas. Essa pesquisa é resultado de um trabalho monográfico em História/UFS e se encontra em andamento.
