This work is a part of the thematic axis, which is Memory, Information and Society and it will focus generally on the history of books and publishing in Sergipe in the second decade of the twentieth century. Particularly, the Cultural Movement of Sergipe and some aspects of the biography of its main founder, Mr. José Augusto Garcez, a topic that narrows down the relationship between the society of Sergipe of that period and the information conveyed by that said movement. The history of publishing and therefore the books in Sergipe are still being created. So, this study is justified, not only by addressing a topic which has never been studied before in researches in Sergipe, which this work will also have a first look at, but it will also seek to unravel the history of books and publishing in Sergipe, which inevitably became the interest of the cultural development of the people of Sergipe and which has brought together the intellectual and financial elite of the state at said time. In order to arrive in the specificity of the topic, first of all, we must look at concepts such as book, publishing, publisher and others in a more panoramic way. In addition to contextualizing the overall story starting from our early supporters, from the walls that were drawn on by the caveman to the period of Typographic Man which is between the fifteenth and eighteenth centuries, looking in a more contextualized view some key names for the development of the book support. Afterwards, we sought to glimpse at some aspects of Jose Augusto Garcez's life who in the 1950s and 1960s founded the Cultural Movement of Sergipe. To understand the social, economic, political and cultural context in which Jose Augusto Garcez was inserted in is of fundamental importance to comprehend the magnitude of that said movement, its editorial activity, its sociability network created to disseminate works of authors from Sergipe and the symbolic construction of the image of the Maecenas of letters in the land of cashew trees and parrotsO presente trabalho está inserido no eixo temático Memória, Informação e Sociedade e versará de forma geral, acerca da história do livro e da editoração em Sergipe na segunda década do século XX. Especificamente, abordar-se-á o Movimento Cultural de Sergipe e aspectos da biografia de seu principal idealizador, o Sr. José Augusto Garcez, temática que estreita a relação entre a sociedade sergipana do período e a informação veiculada pelo referido movimento. A história da editoração e consequentemente a do livro em Sergipe estão por se construir. Neste sentido, se justifica este estudo, não somente por abordar tema até então inédito nas pesquisas sergipanas, ao qual este trabalho lançará um primeiro olhar, mas também por buscar desvendar a história do livro e da editoração em Sergipe, que passou inevitavelmente pelo interesse do desenvolvimento cultural dos sergipanos e congregou a elite intelectual e financeira do estado à época. Para se chegar à especificidade da temática, em primeiro lugar, abordar-se-á de forma panorâmica, conceitos como o de livro, editoração, editor, além de se contextualizar a história geral do livro partindo desde os nossos primeiros suportes, das paredes das cavernas ao período do homem tipográfico (entre os séculos XV e XVIII), destacando de forma contextualizada alguns nomes importantes para evolução do suporte livro. Posteriormente, buscou-se entrever aspectos da vida de José Augusto Garcez que nas décadas de 1950 e 1960 fundou o Movimento Cultural de Sergipe. Isto, pois, perceber o contexto social, econômico, político e cultural em que este sergipano estava inserido é fundamental para se compreender a amplitude do referido movimento, sua atividade editorial, a rede de sociabilidade criada para difusão de obras de autores sergipanos e a construção simbólica da imagem do mecenas das letras na terra dos cajueiros e papagaiosSão Cristóvão, SE
