Resumen
The scapula has essential functions in the shoulder in overhead athletes. An alteration in the movement of the scapula called scapular dyskinesis (SD) can be caused by an inequality in neuromuscular control, thus identifying a certain scapular dysrhythmia. This study aims to verify the prevalence of types of scapular dyskinesis and the association with shoulder pain in volleyball, basketball and handball practitioners. A prospective cross-sectional study was carried out, including 45 basketball players, 25 handballs players and 19 volleyball players, aged between 18 and 30 years. As diagnostic methods, an informal questionnaire was applied according to table 1, in which personal data and information about the modality, presence of pain or injury in the shoulder and a visual evaluation with the participant with the back to the evaluator performing a flexion of shoulder up to 180° in the scapular plane, identifying whether or not there was ED, and which type. Among the 64 participants who presented ND, only 21 presented pain. This is an original study regarding the approach to scapular dyskinesis in overhead athletes and relating it to the presence of shoulder pain. However, the initial hypothesis that there would be a significant association was not matched.
