The article addresses the results of a qualitative case study on migrant Bolivian women from the Aymara ethnic group residing in the Azapa Valley (in the Arica and Parinacota Region of northern Chile). Our objective is to analyze their experiences in their families of origin. To accomplish this, we first present the theoretical frameworks for the analysis, linking them to studies of gender relations and kinship in Aymara families. Second, we describe the methodology, synthesizing the profiles of the interviewed women and their families' migratory trajectories (or experiences). Third, we describe the context of the Azapa Valley near Arica. Fourth, we analyze the women's narratives about the sex-based division of labor within their families and the affective role of female figures -mainly grandmothers- in their childhood and adolescent experience. We conclude by reflecting on the importance of women in the family as well as the social and cultural capital they contribute to shaping migratory experiences.El artículo aborda los resultados de un estudio de caso cualitativo sobre mujeres bolivianas migrantes de la etnia aymara residentes en el Valle de Azapa (en la Región de Arica y Parinacota al norte de Chile). Nuestro objetivo es analizar sus experiencias en sus familias de origen. Para ello, primero presentamos los marcos teóricos para el análisis, vinculándolos a los estudios de relaciones de género y parentesco en familias aymaras. En segundo lugar, se describe la metodología, sintetizando los perfiles de las trayectorias (o experiencias) migratorias de las mujeres entrevistadas y sus familias. Tercero, describimos el contexto del Valle de Azapa cerca de Arica. En cuarto lugar, analizamos las narrativas de las mujeres sobre la división sexual del trabajo en el seno de sus familias y el papel afectivo de las figuras femeninas -principalmente abuelas- en su experiencia infantil y adolescente. Concluimos reflexionando sobre la importancia de la mujer en la familia, así como el capital social y cultural que aportan a la configuración de las experiencias migratorias.
