Periglacial deposits in northern Portugal and its implications for current erosion processes. Summary The morphogenetic processes of the Quaternary recent affect, undoubtedly, the current dynamics of slopes. Among the factors that most influenced the evolution of the relief of Portugal during the late Quaternary is incontestable that the cold and the processes associated with it had a very important role in modeling the forms of relief. In this paper, we will try to summarize the importance that the cold had on the evolution of slopes, inferred through the vestiges that have come down to our day, which morpho-climatic conditions in which they occur, and also what processes if they were associated with. Finally, it will try to demonstrate that there is a direct relationship between the current slope morphodynamics in northern Portugal, and the fact that present themselves to regularized surface formations inherited from the cooler periods. This regularization of the slopes by glacial, periglacial and tardiglacial deposits is, beyond doubt, the factor that most northern Portugal contributes to arousal of ravines and mass movements. The characteristics of the surface formations can determine the depth, the type of movement and also the speed of it.As formações superficiais no Norte de Portugal e suas implicações nos processos erosivos actuais. Resumo Os processos morfogenéticos do Quaternário recente condicionam, de modo indubitável, a actual dinâmica de vertentes. De entre os factores que tiveram maior influência na evolução do relevo de Portugal no decurso final do Quaternário é incontestável que o frio e os processos que lhe estão associados tiveram um papel muito importante na modelação das formas de relevo. Neste trabalho procuraremos fazer uma síntese dos principais aspectos da evolução das vertentes relacionados com os frio, inferir através dos vestígios que chegaram até ao nossos dias quais as condições morfo-climáticas em que ocorreram e quais os processos que se lhes encontravam associados. Finalmente, tentar-se-á demonstrar que existe uma relação directa entre as morfodinâmicas actuais de vertente no Norte de Portugal e, o facto de se apresentarem regularizadas por formações superficiais herdadas do frio. Esta regularização das vertentes por depósitos glaciares, periglaciares e tardiglaciares é, sem margem para dúvida, o factor, que no Norte de Portugal mais contribui para o desencadear de ravinamentos e de movimentos em massa. As características das formações superficiais podem determinar a profundidade, o tipo de movimento e, ainda, a própria velocidade do mesmo
