This paper presents findings of a Master’s study which aimed at investigating the use of film in the classroom. The study had as subject participants some teachers and students from a Brazilian Army Public School located at Brasília in the Brazilian Federal District. The material conditions were analyzed, as well as routines, practices, concepts and presences of visual culture studies related to the use of film in teaching activities. Analyses were made to verify if visual cultural studies found reflex in the teaching efforts performed by these particular teachers who draw from film to implement their teaching processes. Among initial findings of this research, it is noted that there is a contemporary need to educate for a broader view of studying the context of film visualities, regardless of considering its objects and subjects as art or not; and the analysis of the influence of visuality in social practices and in the construction of subjectivities as foundations that underlie the field of Visual Studies, Visual Culture and the educational practices based on them.Este artigo apresenta resultados de pesquisa de mestrado que teve como objetivo investigar a utilização do filme em uma escola formal. O estudo envolveu professores e alunos do Colégio Militar de Brasília, Distrito Federal. Foram analisadas as condições materiais, a rotina, as práticas, os conceitos e a presença dos estudos em visualidade na relação de ensino por meio do filme. Entre os resultados da investigação, destacou-se a necessidade atual de educar uma visão ampliada aos estudos do contexto da visualidade do filme, independente de considerar seus objetos e sujeitos como arte, e à análise da influência da visualidade em geral nas práticas sociais e na construção de subjetividades como fundamentos que perpassam o campo dos Estudos Visuais, da Cultura Visual e o uso educativo neles baseados.
