Resumen
Recent empirical evidence indicates that emotional regulation may have some kind of influence on depression and suicidal ideation, which could affect the mental health of students and how they perform in their educational context. In this sense, this research seeks to analyze the relationship between emotional regulation, depression and suicidal ideation in undergraduate students of the Santo Tomás University, Villavicencio campus. . The methodological design for this study is correlational and in addition, a linear regression analysis was carried out, with a sample size (n=353). Three evaluation instruments were applied three evaluations, the Emotional Regulation Difficulties Scale (Muñoz-Martínez et al. 2016), the Beck Depression Scale and the Beck (Sanz & Vázquez, 2011), Suicidal Ideation Scale adapted by (Eugenio & Zelada, 2011), the statistical análisis was performed with the JASP program. A very strong correlation between depression and difficulties in emotional regulation was obtained, the variables depression and
suicidal ideation present a strong correlation and difficulties in emotional regulation and suicidal ideation show a moderate correlation index. It was found that depression has a strong relationship with the hopelessness subscale, which in turn is the same subscale that is more closely related to difficulties in emotional regulation. Additionally, as soon as linear regression found that difficulties in emotional regulation predict depression in 53%, likewise, emotional dysregulation predicts suicidal ideation in 17%.
