Resumen
In the music industry, artists have many paths to develop their professional careers. Unlike in the past, where they relied heavily on producers and managers to handle the legal, administrative, and marketing requirements necessary to advance their careers, artists now have access to a wealth of information. Public entities at the international level, such as the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), and national organizations like the National Copyright Office (DNDA) have made valuable resources available. Additionally, associations like the Colombian Association of Performers and Phonographic Producers (ACINRPO) provide representation and assistance to artists in areas such as the collection and distribution of performance rights and guidance on the protection and management of their moral and economic rights.
Within this context, the role of business administration is crucial in the music industry as it ensures the success and viability of musical projects. Effective application of business principles and strategies allows for the efficient management of available resources, maximization of income, and minimization of risks. Key areas addressed by business administration in the music industry include financial planning, marketing strategies, and contract management.
This paper aims to provide updated information and emphasize the importance of sound administration for managing and promoting crucial legal aspects such as copyright protection through registration, contracts, licenses, taxes, and intellectual property in general. Insights from interviews conducted with artists, producers, composers, managers, and other stakeholders have been incorporated to offer valuable advice and highlight their experiences, including career challenges and lessons learned.
