Resumen
This research aims to describe the association between occupational stress and sociodemographic and occupational variables of workers from a company of the commercial sector in Bogota, Colombia. For this purpose, based on a descriptive-correlational quantitative methodology, the Questionnaire for Stress Assessment and a Sociodemographic questionnaire were applied to a sample of 336 workers, 168 men and 168 women between 19 and 62 years old. Then, the data was systematized and analyzed. In order to determine the association between the occupational stress and the assessed variables it was used the Pearson’s Chi-squared test. It was found that women reported higher occupational stress levels than men, highlighting that difference in women who occupy managerial positions; in addition, workers who live in the socioeconomic status “3” reported higher occupational stress levels than participants from other statuses. Moreover, it was found that people who had worked for a long time in the company reported higher stress levels, the highest ones are reached by the staff with 11 to 15 years of experience there. Finally, extensive workdays entail higher stress levels for participants.
