Resumen
This paper presents the design of a Robust Model Reference Adaptive Controller (RMRAC)
law applied to control the generator speed by means of the the blade pitch angle in an small
scale wind turbine. A literature review about control systems applied to wind turbines,
Adaptive Control Systems and wind turbines was performed. The DR 14 wind turbine
(designed by GEPOC) was modeled, which comprises the generator, pitch angle actuator
system, DC motor and obtaining the mechanical power given by wind speed and the blades
pitch angle. Open loop simulations were carried out of the modeled stages. An Proportional
Integral controller was designed to control the direct current motor armature current of the
pitch actuator. With the plant models, it was described the steps to implement the RMRAC
controller to achieve the control target. Simulations were performed, showing the good
performance and effectiveness of the controller. At the end, the conclusions and sugestions to
continue and improve this work are presented.
