Resumen
This study aimed to evaluate the effects of risk management performance and process
innovation on the relationship between integrated risk management system and organizational
performance. The methodology used to conduct this research is characterized as descriptive in
relation to objectives, survey in relation to data collection procedures, and quantitative in
relation to the approach to the problem (using structural equation modeling). The study sample
comprised 100 managers in the controllership area of industrial organizations operating in
Brazil. The results reveal that the adoption of an integrated enterprise risk management system
directly and positively influences risk management performance and process innovation, and
indirectly influences organizational performance, because risk management performance is a
mediating element of the relationship. Thus, it can be inferred that companies that promote
integrated risk management practices, aligned with organizational management as a whole,
improve their risk management performance and through this improve their organizational
performance. It was found that risk management performance also promotes process
innovation, which is also positively related to organizational performance. In this way, it can
be concluded that the adoption of an integrated enterprise risk management system, capable of
enabling the qualification of risk management performance, and of promoting innovation in
management processes, constitutes an element that enhances organizational performance.
These results demonstrate that the efficiency of integrated risk management practices acts to
establish improved risk management in organizations, favoring the achievement of better
organizational performance. Likewise, they reveal the conditioning roles of risk management
performance, as a determining element for such improvement to occur. This research
contributes to the risk management literature by providing new evidence about the relationships
and the importance of the adequacy of integrated risk management practices to organizational
management, as well as their impact on organizational performance.
