Resumen
Every child who is unable to meet nutritional needs through the enteral route can benefit from
the use of parenteral nutrition (PN), with this prescription being individualized due to the
particularities of each age group. Complications with the use of PN can have a great impact on
the quality of life (QL) of patients. The aim of this study was to carry out a systematic review
of the nutritional impact and quality of life in children receiving total parenteral nutrition. An
integrative review of the literature related to parenteral nutritional therapy in pediatrics was
carried out, in the Lilacs, Pubmed and Scielo databases, from 2012 to 2022. The keywords used
were: child AND parenteral nutrition AND quality of life. The research resulted in a sample of
7 original articles, characterized according to design, participants, period, intervention and
outcomes. Most studies report a greater number of male children, in most studies the indication
of PN is due to intestinal insufficiency, it is concluded that there is a predominance of
interference from the use of TPN with the quality of life of these children mentioned in the
articles.
