Resumen
This undergraduate final work has the objective of designing the Dual Active Bridge (DAB) converter for the charging of a battery bank. The traditional DAB converter will be used with the addition of an output inductance Lo aiming to increase the useful life of the batteries through reduction of the output ripple. Among the different types of modulation that can be used in the DAB converter, the traditional phase shift modulation strategy they are used to control the converter’s output power. To address voltage and current regulation in the batteries, two PI controllers, which define the phase lag φ of the converter are implemented. In order to properly charge the batteries, two charging methods in CC/CV are presented, one with a mode selector
and the other cascaded. As each method uses two control loops, they are separately designed using the Smart Control software. Moreover, a new mathematical modelling of the converter is proposed taking into consideration the ESR of the output capacitor. Thus, the controllers,
together with the proposed methods are computationally validated in the PSim® software and in Hardware In The Loop using the Typhoon HIL.
