Resumen
The pandemic period in Brazil will forever be remembered as the cause of one of the
biggest recent economic crises. In particular, with regard to inflation, specifically food
inflation, it can be said that this was the highest since the creation of the Real Plan
(1994), this being confirmed by official IBGE indicators such as the IPCA and the
INPC, which were one of the highest since 2015 and exceeded the Central Bank's
inflation target. With regard to the consequences of this inflation, one can see the
changes and consequences in the quality of life of the Brazilian population, especially
those with lower purchasing power. The work aims to address how food inflation was
a relevant phenomenon and that, if analyzed in isolation, can elucidate the size of its
aggravating factors in society. The objectives of this research aim to explain the
causes of food inflation seen in Brazil in recent years, which is of paramount
importance to clarify the informational demand that society seeks to understand the
scenario we are living in the face of the fall of power purchases and increased
hunger in the country. The instruments used are based on the use of a database on
the inflation of foodstuffs and the basic food basket from IBGE and DIEESE. The
conclusions found will be presented at the end of this study from the bibliographical
and explanatory research.
