Perfil profissional e sociodemográfico dos Terapeutas Ocupacionais formados na região central do estado do RS nos últimos 10 anos

Introduction: Knowing the occupational therapist profile from central region of the Rio Grande
do Sul state, the tendencies in the formation and labour market, allow to clarify the profession identity and project
future tendencies. Objective: To describe the professional and sociodemographic profile of the occupational
therapist from central region of the Rio Grande do Sul, in the last 10 years. Method: Quantitative and qualitative
research, conducted by means of semi-structure electronic questionnaire, answered by representative sample of 55
people from 266 professionals registered in the Conselho Regional de Fisioterapia e Terapia Ocupacional
(Regional Council of Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy) - CREFITO 5. Results: Sample constituted
predominantly by young women, entered in the labour market in several cities of the state. The majority have post-
graduation latu sensu, but few have master's and doctoral degrees. Professionals that work exclusively in the
profession, in one or two spaces, the most part in the public institutions, 31 hours per week or more. The mainly
areas of action were Mental Healthy and Childhood. The monthly income varied between 1 thousand and 3
thousand reais. Professionals absorbed quickly by the labour market point that the mainly difficulties were lack of
recognition by the users and/or by others professionals and the difficulty of insertion in the labour market.
Conclusion: In the last 10 years, there was an expressive grow in the number of professionals in the labour market.
The professional profile demonstrate that the profession is in expansion and consolidation phase, suggesting a
positive panorama to the profession still young in the state and, mainly, in the central region.
