Resumen
Despite of the growing number and frequency of non physical pathologies as a cause of labor
abcense, the major causes are still the physical ones, which are also tendind to increase their
prevalence. The Work Related Musculoskeletal Diseases (WRMSD) has been an amount of
conditions each more frequent and great cause of labor absenteeism, generating a large burden
to the state. The WRMSD, or as used by some authors as Repetitive Strain Injuries (RSI),
have their prevalence each time bigger, despite the expectation that the increasing technology
would decrease RSI/WRMSD. This is evidenced in studies of the affected workers groups,
that explains a constant presence of computer and information sector workers, as typists,
telephone operators and industrial sector workers. The fact that relate increased technology
and higher prevalence of RSI/WRMSD is in the adoption of new technologies and production
managements whitout the workers questioning, or adequate adaptation by the employers.
However, there is still much to understand about RSI/WRMSD data prevalence and other data
in workers groups due to the lack of epidemiological studies. This expectation to expand the
understanding concerning these topics of RSI/WRMSD are reflected in the importance of this
work, especially regarding the state of Amapá. The purpose of this monograph is, therefore, to
discuss different aspects of this important issue in Amapá state, with the expectation of
obtaining data and conclusions concerning this, from consultation to corporate systems of the
“Instituto Nacional do Seguro Social” (INSS), based on the database of the “Empresa de
Processamento de Dados da Previdência” (Dataprev) available on SUIBE system (Sistema
Único de Informações de Benefícios). This study evaluated data from 334 medical records of
beneficiaries related to RSI/WRMSD by the period of 2008 to 2012, Which were submitted to
descriptive analysis. The beneficiaries are mostly men that live in Macapa, of age 40 to 49
years, with salaries ranging from 1 to 2 minimun weight. The most prevalent diseases are the
group of Back Pains(CID M54), the abcense time average is 51.71 days. After analysis by
DATAPREV data can be concluded that the higher proportion of abcences by men can be
related to the bigger number of this sex in the economically activepopulation. However,
women had more abcense time. The study also inferred that, as in most studies, the upper
limbs pathologies are more prevalent and people with lower salaries are most affected,
suggesting great relation between the social aspect and the incidence of RSI/WRMSD.
Finally, this work shows the importance of further studies about the epidemiological and
demographic populations affected by these diseases in order to seek greater understanding
related to them.
