RESUMEN: Por medio de este trabajo se busca identificar claramente los factores de riesgo y los factores protectores presentes en la conducta suicida de estudiantes de la comunidad universitaria en la ciudad de Medellín, usando una clasificación por categorías para lograr una discriminación comprensible. Esto se logró a través de un enfoque cualitativo, con una aproximación fenomenológica ya que se trabajó con las percepciones de los sujetos de prueba, para conseguir eso se realizaron entrevistas semiestructuradas a 15 estudiantes que de manera voluntaria aceptaron participar en la investigación recolectando su información individual y anónimamente. Los resultados arrojados en esta investigación agrupan tanto los factores de riesgo como los factores protectores en 5 categorías: individual, familiar, social, biológica y psicológica, que a su vez agrupan otras subcategorías. Se pudo observar que en los factores de riesgo la categoría familiar es la que produce mayor propensión a la conducta suicida en la muestra analizada, además en la categoría psicológica se presentaron 13 con diagnostico psiquiátrico de los 15 entrevistados. Por otra parte, en los factores protectores la categoría que tiene más influencia en la evitación de la conducta suicida es la social, esto como lo mencionan los participantes debido al apoyo de sus amistades.ABSTRACT: This work seeks to clearly identify the risk factors and protective factors present in the suicidal behavior of students from the university community in the city of Medellín, using a classification by categories to achieve understandable discrimination. This was achieved through a qualitative method, with a phenomenological approach since we worked with the perceptions of the test subjects. To achieve this, semi-structured interviews were applied to 15 students who voluntarily agreed to participate in the research by collecting their information individual and anonymously. The results obtained in this research group both the risk factors and the protective factors into 5 categories: individual, family, social, biological and psychological, which in turn group other subcategories. It was observed that in the risk factors the family category is the one that produces the highest propensity for suicidal behavior in the analyzed sample, in addition in the psychological category there are 13 with a psychiatric diagnosis of the 15 interviewees. On the other hand, in the protective factors the category that has the most influence in the avoidance of suicidal behavior is the social one, this is what the participants mention due to the support of their friends.
