t ha-1)." "Thirty-two hybrids of dwarf maize and their parents were evaluated with the
method I model II of Griffing (1956) in Buenavista, Saltillo, Mexico during the years
2015 and 2016, with next objectives: i) Estimating the types of gene action, the
heritability and the heterosis exhibited in the variables studied in this germplasmic
group; ii) Identify simple crosses of similar phenotype, especially in plant height,
precocity, health and yield to select at least 10 of them that can be recombined to
generate a synthetic variety; and iii) Form populations of crosses simple
complementary ones that are useful for derivation of new lines of dwarf corn. To
achieve these objectives, the diallelic between the lines involved was subjected
to performance tests, which was evaluated in four environments during the years
2015 and 2016 where each experimental unit consisted of a groove of 3.84 m
long, separated at 0.80 m and 11.6 cm between plants (110,000 plants * ha-1).
The results of the combined diallelic analysis indicated that in the F1 crosses
between the dwarf progenitor lines, the effects of the additive type for the set of
evaluated variables were more important (contributed 60.89% of additive effects,
16.74% of non-additive effects and 22.37% of reciprocal effects). For the
identification of complementary germplasm (to form new breeding population), the
selection indexes methodology was used, finding the hybrids 20 (PE-212-1-2) *
([(M16 * PE-115-3- 13) * M16] -1-2); 4 (255-18-19) * ([(M16 * PE-115-3-13) * M16]
-1-2) and 25 ([(M16 * PE-115-3-13) * M16] -1 -2) * (PEGC1-61) as the best
populations for their complementarity and together with eight others to form the
synthetic variety which they were; 6, 28, 10, 27, 7, 2, 22, 9 and 5. The participation
xiv
of the crosses was not proportional, since it was preferred that the lines that
showed the greatest effects of GCA had a greater proportion of participation. In
terms of heterosis, hybrid 20 was the one with the greatest presence of this
phenomenon, whose experimental yield was (21.32 t ha-1)."
