Resumen
This paper presents an extension to the synthesis of the symmetrical analysis methods for modeling passive ra-port junctions. Two approaches are discussed: the electrical one based on consideration of even- and odd-propagation modes and the geometrical one based on space symmetry operators. The convenience of using more complete models for both analysis and synthesis is manifest in the choice of the simplest topological circuits of some well-known signal-separation structures. An example of the synthesis of a lumped quadrature coupler is carried out via the geometrical approach and the results compared to those of a previously reported design performed via the electrical approach. Likewise a distributed circuit for a ring-style five-port four-way equal-power divider simpler than others exhibiting the same power-division characteristics is presented. Methods: A retrospective and descriptive study (2002 to 2005) was undertaken. From all reviewed cases, 242 patients had a diagnosis compatible with lung cancer. We analyzed the histological type, gender, age group, and diagnostic method. Results: The histological type frequencies of lung cancer were as follows: 63.6% adenocarcinoma, 19.0% squamous cell carcinoma, 15.2% small cell carcinoma, and 2.2% large-cell carcinoma. Among these patients, a male-female ratio of 2:1 with a mean age of 63 years was found. Regarding the diagnostic methods followed, the most common included: transthoracic needle aspiration, bronchial biopsy, and bronchial washing. Conclusions: Adenocarcinoma was the most frequent histological type in the sample studied, an association between female gender and risk of developing adenocarcinoma was detected.",,,,,,,,,"http://hdl.handle.net/20.500.12104/42620","http://www.scopus.com/inward/record.url?eid=2-s2.0-67449127842&partnerID=40&md5=bf4bcb4611b4efe575096bf8a68a4461",,,,,,"2",,"Gaceta Medica de Mexico",,"97 101",,"145",,"Scopus WOS",,,,,,"Adenocarcinoma; Carcinoma; Lung cancer",,,,,,"Lung cancer histological types and diagnostic methods in a tertiary care facility [Tipos histológicos y métodos diagnósticos en cáncer pulmonar en un centro hospitalario de tercer nivel]",,"Article"

Objective: To describe the prevalence and short-term outcome of lupus erythematosus in patients with the major forms of acute cerebrovascular disease in the Mexican multicenter registry RENAMEVASC. Methods: A total of 2000 patients were studied in the RENAMEVASC registry in 25 hospitals from 14 states of Mexico: 100 (5%) with transient ischemic attack (TIA), 992 (49.6%) with acute cerebral infarction (ACI), 580 (29%) with intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH), 269 (13.5%) with subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), and 59 (3%) with cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT). Results: In all, the prevalence of lupus erythematosus was 1.3% (95% confidence interval: 0.8-1.9%), significantly higher among cases with CVT (3.4%), than in SAH patients (0.4%, p = 0.03), but not higher than ICH (0.9%, p = 0.07), ICT (2%, p = 0.59) or ACI (1.6%, p = 0.31) cases. Compared with patients without lupus, those with this condition were significantly younger, with a high proportion of the female gender and antiphospholipid syndrome (in all, p < 0.05). Shortterm outcome of lupus patients was, in general, favorable, with an acute mortality not significantly different from patients without lupus (7.6 vs. 20.7%, respectively; p = 0.10), but with a lower proportion of cases with a modified Rankin score > 3 at dischrage (modified Rankin scale > 3, 11.5% vs. 49.4%, respectively; p < 0.001) and at 30-day follow-up (11.5 vs. 43%, respectively; p = 0.001). Conclusion: In Mexico, the frequency of lupus erythematosus in patients with acute cerebrovascular disease is < 2% and with shortterm mortality < 10%.
