In the framework of the research "Education, Human Rights, Cultures of Peace and Non-Violence in the Latin American School", a documentary review was made to understand the conditions that are being made possible in educational institutions in Latin America to guarantee the dignified life of children and adolescents through the promotion and guarantee of the right to participation. From the analysis of 47 research articles, published from 2012 to 2017, it was identified that the school is assumed as the main participation space for children and adolescents, however, the guarantee of this right in the institutions of Latin America is very limited and although progress has been made in terms of educational policy to promote participation, such as the proposal of competencies and curricular contents and the establishment of formal participation mechanisms such as the constitution of school councils and their participation in the decision-making and in school management, the results in its application and execution are not as they were expected.
