Resumen
This study discusses the presence of cultural mediation in storytelling, seen as a possibility for the expression of art and literature for children, youth and adults. It argues that the kirigamis used during the storytelling are artistic and cultural resources capable of arousing interest in Japanese art and culture. The goal was to identify cultural mediation in storytelling activities. This is a field research of a qualitative nature. The research universe was the Children's Public Library of Londrina, Paraná; the target population was composed by the storyteller, the librarian, and the readers/listeners. As a research method, the observation of storytelling and semi-structured interviews with the listeners, the storyteller and the responsible librarian were used. The data were analyzed based on the observation script and the interview speeches. The results show that the librarian and the mediator can perform cultural mediation and mediation of reading, despite the lack of financial resources and support from the State. It concludes that storytelling manifests itself as cultural mediation because, in addition to fostering a taste for art and reading, it favors the reader appropriation and production of different languages and effects.
