Abstract
On-line fault detection and monitoring systems are embedded in current automotive systems. In the presence of a fault, a particular diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is triggered and logged forfurther analysis. Binary decision diagrams encode tests to be performed for each logged code. However, due to increased automotive embedded electronics, several DTCs can be triggered by the same root cause, which makes the off-board diagnostic procedure a challenging task. This work aims to develop a software tool to combine individual binary decision diagrams in presence of multiple active DTCs, in order to build a single binary decision diagram with lower diagnostic cost. In this approach, the binary decision diagram prioritizes tests in components with lower cost and high fault probability. The developed software is a proof of concept, in which it’s possible to apply the proposed strategy in different scenarios, in a similar way it occurs in commercial diagnostic tools. Preliminary results show a significant reduction in the diagnostic cost of the combined strategy over the standard approach.
