Resumen
Transparent conducting SnO 2:Cd thin films were prepared by RF reactive magnetron co-sputtering on glass slides at a substrate temperature of 500 °C using CdO as cadmium source. The films were deposited under a mixed argon/oxygen atmosphere. The structural, optical and electrical properties were analyzed as a function of the Cd amount in the target. The X-ray diffraction shows that polycrystalline films were grown with both the tetragonal and orthorhombic phases of SnO 2. The obtained films have high transmittance and conductivity. The figure of merit of SnO 2:Cd films are in the order of 10 -3 ? -1, which suggests that these films can be considered as candidates for transparent electrodes. " 2011 Elsevier B.V. Viscosity and normal forces have been determined over a wide range of shear rates and the results are presented using appropriate master curves for the temperature and concentration effects. For the experimental conditions studied, chitosan solutions behaved like non-Newtonian viscoelastic shear-thinning fluids. They show a low-shear rate Newtonian plateau and a high-shear rate non-Newtonian region. All material functions (viscosity and primary normal stress) decrease with an increase in temperature and a decrease in chitosan concentration. The most important parameter affecting the rheology of the solutions has been found to be salt addition, particularly for chitosans dissolved in weak acids where electrostatic effects are believed to be important.",,,,,,,,,"http://hdl.handle.net/20.500.12104/44741","http://www.scopus.com/inward/record.url?eid=2-s2.0-2942668547&partnerID=40&md5=77c7fcf3a3b2c2ee652d0c87bbab12d3",,,,,,"1",,"Journal of Texture Studies",,"53 74",,"35",,"Scopus WOS",,,,,,,,,,,,"Steady-shear rheology of concentrated chitosan solutions",,"Article"

To assess STI/AIDS risk behaviors and occupational risk factors among adolescent hotel workers in Puerto Vallarta. Material and Methods. Comparative cross-sectional study conducted in 1998, among 288 workers adolescents of 38 hotels in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Variables were collected on working conditions, environmental conditions, STI/AIDS risk behaviors, and sociodemographic characteristics. Statistical analysis consisted of descriptive and multivariate techniques: t test, OR, and logistic regression. Results. Study subjects had a mean age of 17.7 years; 71.5% were males. Fifty-three percent had active sexual relations; 93.6% of them had one or more STI/AIDS risk behaviors. Inadequate condom use was found in 77.3%, and 41% drank alcoholic beverages before intercourse. Promiscuity was reported by 29.9%, and anal relations by 9.2%. Associated factors were: perception of a sexually-arousing environment (OR 2.36), alcohol drinking by peers (OR 2.52) and guests (OR 2.60) before sexual intercourse, hotel rules allowing tourist guests in hotel rooms (OR 4.46). Confouding variables were: male gender (OR 3.14), being married or in common law (OR 21.19), and being 18-19 years of age (OR 3.11). Conclusions. The high frequency of STI/AIDS risk behaviors among adolescent hotel workers is associated to specific environmental factors.",,,,,,,,,"http://hdl.handle.net/20.500.12104/44750","http://www.scopus.com/inward/record.url?eid=2-s2.0-0037241802&partnerID=40&md5=bd9b4393f546a0d047f0e8ee9db42226",,,,,,"SUPPL. 1",,"Salud Publica de Mexico",,"S81 S91",,"45",,"Scopus WOS",,,,,,"Adolescent worker; ITS/AIDS hotels environment; Mexico; Risk behavior; Sexual behavior",,,,,,"STI/AIDS-related practices and occupational risk factors in adolescent hotel workers in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico [Comportamientos de riesgo de ITS/SIDA en adolescentes trabajadores de hoteles de Puerto Vallarta y su asociación con el ambiente laboral]",,"Article"

The PAM concentration required to obtain the required floc formation was determined with seven different flocculant concentrations (200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700 y 800 mg/L). In a second experiment, six pilot-scale batch runs were conducted in a 798-liter container using PAM concentrations of between 400 and 800 mg/L of vinasse. The flocculated solids were separated in a rotating screen separator and the treated vinasse collected in a 327-liter stainless steel tank. For each batch run, the parameters pH-value, settleable solids, total solids, total suspended solids, total dissolved solids and chemicaloxygen demand were evaluated for both treated and non-treated vinasse. In addition, the balance between the untreated vinasse volume as related to the recovered flocculated solids and the residual liquid vinasse was determined. Based on the observed parameters within the range of the PAM concentrations used, it was concluded that the higher the floculant dose, the higher the removal of vinasse pollutants, recovering up to 43.7 L of flocs/100 L of treated vinasse when 700 mg of PAM/L of vinasse was used. These results proved very useful for optimizing the operational condition of the vinasse treatment plant.",,,,,,,,,"http://hdl.handle.net/20.500.12104/44808","http://www.scopus.com/inward/record.url?eid=2-s2.0-79959876075&partnerID=40&md5=78cbfa44127f54188f5899a75af4e7ac",,,,,,"4",,"Revista Internacional de Contaminacion Ambiental",,"299 311",,"26",,"Scopus WOS",,,,,,"Flocculation; Polyacrylamide; Solids separation; Tequila vinasses",,,,,,"Study for the rehabilitation of a stillage treatment plant tequila using a polymer flocculant polyacrylamide (PAM) [Estudio para la rehabilitación de una planta de tratamiento de vinazas tequileras mediante un floculante polimérico de poliacrilamida (PAM)]",,"Article"

When disturbed, it exudes a secretion that photo-oxidizes to an intense purple hue. This product has been used as a dye for ceremonial dresses. Unlike the case in other dye-producing molluscs, it is not necessary to sacrifice individuals to obtain the dye, allowing repetitive "milking" of the same animal without causing mortality. Evaluation of population parameters, rates of dye produced as a function of age at first milking, and milking frequency allowed us to simulate different exploitation scenarios and to evaluate strategies to determine the most profitable exploitation intensity and optimum milking frequencies. Laboratory experiments and field data showed that mortality occurs when the interval between milking is lower than 21 days. The most profitable exploitation strategies suggest that up to 310 L of dye in 50 km of shoreline length can be harvested during the three-month milking season. This volume of dye is sufficient to stain up to 260 skeins of cotton thread. Simulations showed that the stocks can withstand sustainable exploitation along their distribution range, allowing commercial exploitation of the dye produced by stocks of purple conch in other areas apart from those where it currently takes place, benefiting other groups of fishers elsewhere and ensuring the conservation of this tradition.",,,,,,,,,"http://hdl.handle.net/20.500.12104/44758","http://www.scopus.com/inward/record.url?eid=2-s2.0-33751282703&partnerID=40&md5=13ab7b6846be47e53e6fa78b032aa394",,,,,,"01-feb",,"American Malacological Bulletin",,"51 57",,"21",,"Scopus WOS",,,,,,"Bioeconomic model; Conservation; Population dynamics; Resource management; Simulation; Sustainable yield",,,,,,"Strategies for sustainable dye harvest of the purple conch Plicopurpura pansa (Gould, 1853) from west central Mexico",,"Article"

Data were collected from migrants interviewed in seven Mexican communities during the winters of 1987 through 1989, as well as from out-migrants from those communities who subsequently located in the United States. We conduct time-series experiments that examine changes in migrants' behavior before and after passage of the IRCA in 1986. We estimate trends in the probability of taking a first illegal trip, the probability of repeat migration, the probability of apprehension by the Border Patrol, the probability of using a border smuggler, and the costs of illegal border crossing. In none of these analyses could we detect any evidence that IRCA has significantly deterred undocumented migration from Mexico. " 1992 Population Association of America.
