Resumen
Dehydration as the complication of diarrheal diseases, is one of the main causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide in children, the treatment is rehydration with ORS, despite its low cost and to be found in all health units in Ecuador. Its use is limited due to its low palatability, demonstrating that a modification in its flavor, would improve its acceptance and therefore its adherence to SRO in children. Objective: - To analyze the relevance of the palatability of oral rehydration salts in the treatment of dehydration in children under 5 years of age. Materials and methods: A bibliographic search in databases of scientific journals; PUBMED, Elsevier, Scopus, ScienceDirect, web pages., Articles were obtained in Latin America and the United States, which include clinical and epidemiological factors, diagnosis, pathophysiology and therapeutics of Dehydration, as well as the importance of palatability. Conclusions: The SRO is the specific treatment for dehydration in children, if the palatability of the ORS is improved it is conditioned to the best adherence and acceptance also when making our proposal and putting it into practice it was found that the children ingest the ORS with greater acceptability, finally, it is concluded that there are not many studies that investigate the importance of the flavor of the SRO (WHO) that is offered in the health establishments.
