Resumen
The objective of this study was to evaluate the hypoglycaemic effect from hydroalcoholic and aqueous extracts of the leaves of the Jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus Lam), basing their analysis on rats (Rattus norvegicus). Hydroalcoholic (70% isopropyl alcohol) and aqueous extracts were prepared at concentrations of 125, 250 and 400 ppm, respectively. In 30 days, the hypoglycaemic analysis was made, 45 male rats were used, which were divided into 9 groups of 5 rats each, blank, negative control, positive control, 3 groups for the hydroalcoholic extract of 125, 250 and 400 ppm and 3 groups for the aqueous extract at the same concentrations. The 8 groups, except the blank, were administered a diet rich in starch at a concentration of 2000 ppm (mg / Kg) of body weight for 15 days, thus affecting hyperglycaemia. After the starch diet, blood glucose was measured on 15 days, on the first, seventh and fifteenth day, at 30-, 60- and 120-minute intervals. The pharmacological effect was evidenced in both hydroalcoholic and aqueous extracts at a concentration of 400 ppm with a p-value less than 0.05 through statistical tests when comparing your results with the drug used commercially. In conclusion, the antioxidant activity, hypoglycaemic effects from the hydroalcoholic and aqueous extracts of the leaves of the Jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus Lam) were evaluated. Identification and chemical purification studies of the active ingredient are recommended.
