Resumen
In the last decade, studies related to educational innovation in teaching and assessment of competencies have been presented more frequently. However, "a definition that endorses the areas and limitations to define the educational innovation in teaching and assessment of competencies has not been presented". The preceding has motivated a systematic study of the literature presented in this paper, from 2016 to March 2021, in which the analysis was done in 320 studies by focusing on the following questions: 1) what is educational innovation for teaching and assessment of competencies at the upper and higher education levels? 2) how is it evaluated? 3) apart from reviews, which efforts have been made to standardize these competencies? The systematic literature review sheds light on these three questions through an examination of nine research sub-queries. As a result, it was observed that the greatest effort regarding educational innovation in competencies was made at the higher education level and was aimed at students. The competencies were revised through their links with the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda. In addition, the methodologies used for teaching and evaluation of competencies were reviewed. Finally, we discussed which technologies were used to develop students’ proficiencies.
