The meaning of Mobile Learning in a mobile / immobile world

Abstract

The webinar will begin with a brief consideration of the meaning of mobility and its relationship with immobility in the contemporary world. It will then narrow its focus to the meaning of mobile learning and how it fits with a mobile/immobile world, exploring the mobility of devices, the mobility of learners, and the mobility of learning experiences. These reflections will be illustrated by examples of innovative mobile language and literacy learning projects from around the world, drawing on cases from both the global North and the global South. It will be suggested that the most effective forms of mobile learning should balance contextual appropriacy with exploiting mobility on as many levels as possible.
