Resumen
This work aims to dynamically animate and simulate rigid bodies’ fractures on a virtual 3D environment. The virtual environment must be data-driven, to support the usage of 3D modeling tools in the scenario creation. In order to simulate the physical events, a physical engine is used in the application implementation.
A model based on continuum mechanics is used to describe the way that the objects should behave when simulated in the environment. The technique used to partition the continuum domain was the finite element method, using tetrahedrons as elements to describe the boundary conditions.
The programming language used to implement the application is C++, combined with a set of tools that will give support to the extra functionalities required by the problem’s nature.
