Puntos de quiebre entre el régimen internacional de refugiados y su implementación por parte de Colombia y Ecuador (2002 – 2014)

Abstract

This research analyzes the incompatibility between the international refugee regime’s mandates and its implementation by Colombia and Ecuador during the period from 2002 to 2014. In this regard, the research argues that States act in favor of their interests in national security above the humanitarian commitments of this international legal framework, situation that accentuates the vulnerability of refugees. The lack of enforcement of this regime allows governments to adopt measures against the guarantee of refugee’s rights, making from the exclusion and stigmatization of these migrants a representation of national sovereignty.
