La cultura visual constituye un aporte a la reflexión y al desarrollo del pensamiento crítico, sin embargo no siempre es considerada y utilizada como vía para promover valores. Este artículo presenta un acercamiento a este campo de estudio que emerge del teatro de formato breve, con un especial énfasis en el origen de los problemas y sus posibles repercusiones en la sociedad. En esta medida, se hace uso de la metodología cualitativa mediante la observación no participante y análisis de contenido de las diversas propuestas que se ofrecen en la ciudad de Guayaquil, asimismo se apoya en la revisión bibliográfica y documental de los microteatros. Como resultado se obtiene una aproximación al imaginario colectivo y a la capacidad crítica que existe en Guayaquil, entre las conclusiones se destaca que el argot utilizado influye como medio de transmisión cultural que fortalece o destruye los valores de la audiencia que visita estos teatros de formato breve.Visual culture contributes to reflection and the development of critical thinking; however, it is not taken into account and is not always used as a means to promote values. This paper presents an approach to this field of study emerging from short theater plays, with a special emphasis on the origin of the problems and their possible repercussions in society. In this sense, a qualitative methodology is used through non-participant observation and content analysis of the different proposals offered in Guayaquil city, as well as a bibliographic and documentary review of the micro-theaters. As a result, an approach to the collective imaginary and the critical capacity that exists in Guayaquil is obtained. Among the conclusions, it is highlighted that the slang used influences as a means of cultural transmission that strengthens or destroys the values of the audience that visits these short theaters plays.
