A abordagem
a explicativa.
A técnica
As redações
ABSTRACT: Constructivist learning theories conceive students' prior knowledge as one of the most
important variables for learning new concepts. The cognitive structure is somewhat
idiosyncratic and the task of understanding how new concepts interact with pre-existing
ones is not an easy one. The Theory of Social Representations provides the foundation
for understanding how this common sense knowledge is constructed and socially shared.
Thus, the present study aimed to investigate the Social Representations that the
concluding students of the final years of Elementary School in the municipality of Campo
Mourão - PR share about the phenomenon of the seasons, as well as the relationship of
these representations with the concepts presented in the textbooks adopted by the school.
The methodological approach to the constitution and analysis of the data was qualitative,
specifically the explanatory one. The rhetorical analysis of the textbooks, allowed us to
identify the arguments used by their authors, as well as to verify if these arguments are
consistent with the Curricular Guidelines of Education, of the state of Paraná. The
technique used to identify Social Representations was Free Evocation of Words, which
allowed the identification of the central, intermediate and peripheral elements of this
representation, followed by a brief essay on the evoked words. The discours presented by
the investigated subjects were analyzed according to the theoretical assumptions of the
Textual Discursive Analysis. The results found showed that the semantic groups rotation,
translation, time and distance between the Earth and the Sun, make up the quadrant of the
central elements of the investigated social representation. In addition, we identified a
divergence between the social representations shared by these students and the speeches
existing in textbooks, regarding the astronomical phenomenon in question. This result
corroborates the Theory of Meaningful Learning with regard to the teaching materials
used. After all, even if a learning material is potentially significant, if it does not provide
conditions for the association of new information with the student's idiosyncratic
knowledge, there will be no learning. 94 f. : il. color., figs., tabs.
