Analyzing the decisions taken by the Officers of the Brazilian Army participating in the Canudos War comparing to Sun Tzu's millennial recommendations in "The Art of War," this article aims to highlight the military aspects of the conflict, which contributed to the changes in the strategic, tactical and operational military thinking of the military leaders of the Brazilian Army in the early twentieth century.Analisando as decisões tomadas pelos oficiais do Exército Brasileiro participantes da Guerra de Canudos à luz das recomendações milenares de Sun Tzu em “A Arte da Guerra”, este artigo se propõe a evidenciar os aspectos militares do conflito, que contribuiu para as mudanças ocorridas no pensamento militar estratégico, tático e operacional dos líderes militares do Exército Brasileiro, no início do século XX.
