Resumen
Introduction: Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common form of arthrosis, a chronic disease characterized by progressive degeneration of articular cartilage. Even so, due to its refractory profile and different forms of treatment, joint mobilization has shown interesting effects in some clinical signs/symptoms. Objective: To verify the effects of joint mobilization on OA. Methods: Data collection was performed through electronic search in the following databases: Medline (Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online /PubMed) and PEDro (Phisiotherapy Evidence Database). Eligibility criteria was established so that the collected data could be later tabulated in the Microsoft Office Excel® program. After reading the respective titles and abstracts to identify whether they meet the eligibility criteria, these data were extracted and compiled into tables. Results: Five articles were included in the review, it was possible to verify that the types of OA covered were (knee, hand, and hip). Most studies have been conducted on women aged (63 to 82 years); the main outcomes analyzed were pain, functional capacity, and OA classification; the main methods used were mobilizations by distraction, accessory, oscillatory and Maitland and the time of mobilizations lasted from 3 to 10 minutes with movements of 30 to 60 seconds. Conclusion: The findings allow us to infer that joint mobilization is an interesting therapeutic resource for the management of clinical signs/symptoms of OA; however, the maneuvers used were not detailed enough and few studies could contemplate the eligibility criteria, making the sample scarce.
