The present research aims to study the women’s silencing and oppression in the book The Handmaid’s Tale (1985), by Margaret Atwood, from the perspective of Pêcheux’s discourse analysis. This paper will be developed based on qualitative research. We will operationalize some concepts from the perspective of Discourse Analysis (2012) such as discourse, interdiscourse, subject, ideology. We will also approach the forms of silence proposed by Eni P. Orlandi (2011) who divides silence into two: founding silence and silencing, which in turn is subdivided into constitutive silence and local silence. This work is organized into five chapters, the first is an introductory chapter. On chapter two, we will bring some considerations about Pecheut's Discourse Analysis. On chapter three, we will continue our journey with a synthesis of The Handmaid’s Tale to contextualize the discourses that will be analysed. In the fourth chapter, a brief history of the feminist movement will be made. On the fith chapter, it will be sought in the text the various silences are manifested within the narrative and its conditions of production. We will problematize the position of women and what forms of silencing are articulated for female oppression.A presente pesquisa tem como objetivo estudar o silenciamento e a opressão das mulheres na obra O Conto da Aia (1985), de Margaret Atwood, pela perspectiva da análise do discurso pecheutiana. Esta proposta se desenvolverá por meio de uma revisão de literatura baseada em pesquisa qualitativa. Para isso, operacionalizamos alguns conceitos sob a ótica Análise do Discurso, como: discurso, interdiscurso, sujeito, ideologia. Abordaremos, também, as formas do silêncio propostas por Eni P. Orlandi (2011), que entende o silêncio sob dois vieses: o silêncio fundante e o silenciamento. Este, por sua vez, se subdivide em silêncio constitutivo e silêncio local. Este trabalho se divide em cinco capítulos. Iniciaremos com um capítulo introdutório, no capítulo dois, iremos trazer algumas considerações sobre a Análise de Discurso pecheutiana. No capítulo três continuaremos nosso percurso com uma síntese de O Conto da Aia para contextualizarmos os discursos que serão analisados. No quarto capítulo será feito um breve histórico do movimento feminista.
