dc.descriptionAging is surrounded by several alterations that can contribute for the frailty onset which leads to the development of incapacities. In this context, elderly people who present some dimension of frailty may experience the institutionalization process, which in turn may worse the frailty syndrome.. We aimed to analyze the physical and cognitive frailty of institutionalized elderly in a municipality in Sergipe. There was a screening among 40 elderly residents of a long-term care institution using a health status and socioeconomic questionnaire. Subsequently, the selected elderly (n=5; 72.6±8.6 years old), after signed the informed consent term, responded to the Kihon Checklist; participated in physical tests battery: Time Up and Go, Five Chair Stand, One Leg Stand and Handgrip Test; and by the cognitive test battery: Mini Mental State Examination and Scenery Picture Memory Test. In total 60% of the elderly were frail according to the KCL total score. However, analyzing the domains separately, the domains: socialization, memory and mood, demonstrated a greater percentage of frailty. Among the physical tests, in the TUG all volunteers spent more than 10s to perform the test; 80% of them didn’t achieve the cutoff point of handgrip and one leg stand tests; 60% regarding five chair stand test. All investigated elderly presented cognitive frailty when assessed by cognitive tests. This study reinforced the evidences regarding the physical and cognitive frailty profile of institutionalized elderly, underling the urgent need for measures to approach this syndrome, comprehending prevention and treatment actions, through an interdisciplinary professional team.
dc.descriptionO envelhecimento humano constitui-se por diversas alterações que podem contribuir para o aparecimento da síndrome da fragilidade, culminando para o desenvolvimento de incapacidades. Nesse contexto, a institucionalização é experenciada por muitos idosos que se encontram em alguma dimensão da fragilidade. O objetivo do estudo foi analisar o perfil de fragilidade cognitiva e física de idosos institucionalizados em um município do interior de Sergipe. Houve seleção entre os 40 idosos residentes de uma ILPI, utilizando um questionário socioeconômico e de condição de saúde. Posteriormente, os idosos selecionados (n=5; 72.6±8.6 anos), após assinatura do TCLE, responderam ao Kihon Checklist (KCL); participaram da bateria de testes físicos: Time Up and Go (TUG), Sentar e Levantar da Cadeira, Equilíbrio Unipodal e Teste de Preensão Palmar; e da bateria de testes cognitivos: Mini Exame do Estado Mental (MEEM) e Scenery Picture Memory Test. Conforme escore total do KCL, 60% dos idosos possuíram fragilidade. Os percentuais maiores de fragilidade foram nos domínios: sociabilização, memória e humor. No TUG, nenhum idoso realizou o teste em menos de 10s, 80% deles tiveram abaixo do ponto de corte do teste de Preensão Palmar e do Equilíbrio Unipodal, no Sentar e Levantar foi 60%. Já no MEEM e Scenery Picture Memory Test 100% dos idosos não atingiram o score mínimo. Esse estudo evidenciou os perfis de fragilidade física e cognitiva de idosos institucionalizados, demonstrando a necessidade urgente de medidas de enfretamento a essa síndrome, envolvendo ações de prevenção e tratamento, através de uma atuação profissional interdisciplinar em instituições de longa permanência.
