| dc.description | This article aims to set an expectation related to the possibility of the existence, or not, of a nuclear war between North Korea and the United States in light of the realist theory in the International Relations field of study, especially regarding the concept of deterrence, and Nuno Monteiro and Alexandre Debs’ model on nuclear proliferation. For such, it was performed an application of the theoretical and bibliographical study onto the also studied case, as methodology to reach the proposed objective. The article is organized in order to introduce the theme and its importance to the field, to present the historical facts that are important to the concerning scenery until the year of 2017, to expose the main academic contributions referring to the cited concepts and, finally, to analyse what are the north korean motivations to its nuclear program, and elaborate a perspective to the future, considering if, according to what has been studied, there will occur a nuclear war or not. | |

| dc.description | O presente artigo busca traçar uma expectativa em relação a possível existência ou não de uma guerra nuclear entre a Coreia do Norte e os Estados Unidos à luz da teoria realista do campo das Relações Internacionais, em especial se tratando do conceito de dissuasão, e do modelo de Nuno Monteiro e Alexandre Debs sobre a proliferação nuclear. Para tanto, foi realizada a aplicação do estudo teórico e bibliográfico no caso estudado como metodologia para alcançar o objetivo proposto. O artigo é organizado de forma a introduzir o tema e sua importância para o campo, apresentar os fatos históricos importantes para o cenário até o ano de 2017, expor as principais contribuições acadêmicas referentes aos conceitos citados e, por fim, analisar quais são as motivações para o programa nuclear norte-coreano, e elaborar uma perspectiva para o futuro, considerando se, segundo o que foi estudado, haverá uma guerra nuclear ou não. | |
