dc.descriptionIt is known that urban afforestation is responsible for many aesthetic and environmental benefits when properly implemented. Therefore, this work aims to qualitatively and quantitatively evaluate urban afforestation in two stretches of Ceará and Piauí streets and three stretches of Amazonas and Pará avenues, inserted in the Umuarama campus, of the Federal University of Uberlândia, MG, Brazil. This evaluation was carried out using a form with 13 parameters applied to each tree studied. This form favored the measurement and observation of attributes and the physical-sanitary condition of each tree, relating it to the characteristics and available space of the place in which it is located, in addition to analyzing the management used. In total 221 trees were evaluated and the places studied have a good variety of species, but the proportion between them is inadequate, as Cenostigma pluviosum represents half of the tree population found. 65.6% of the population has medium vigor, showing good health and little damage, 20% is vigorous and 14.4% is debilitated, there are no dead trees. Most species are big in size, representing the main problem found, which is the incompatibility of the size of individuals with the space available on the sidewalk. Of the total number of trees, 27.6% need phytosanitary treatment and, or pruning and 48.3% need to be replaced because they are raising the sidewalk or due to the precarious condition they are, as a result of drastic pruning in order to avoid interference in the electrical network and signaling. Although no major problems regarding the quality of trees were found, better planning of afforestation is advisable, with the appropriate choice of species that are compatible with the location where they will be implanted and applying the correct management, to avoid future problems.

dc.descriptionSabe-se que a arborização urbana é responsável por muitos benefícios estéticos e ambientais quando bem implementada. Assim sendo, este trabalho tem por finalidade a avaliação qualiquantitativa da arborização urbana em dois trechos das ruas Ceará e Piauí e três trechos das avenidas Amazonas e Pará, inseridos no campus Umuarama, da Universidade Federal de Uberlândia, MG, Brasil. Esta avaliação foi conduzida com o uso de uma ficha com 13 parâmetros aplicados a cada árvore estudada. Esta ficha privilegiou a medição e observação dos atributos e a condição físico-sanitária de cada árvore, relacionando-a às características e ao espaço disponível do local em que está inserido, além de analisar o manejo empregado. No total foram avaliadas 221 árvores e os locais estudados apresentam boa variedade de espécies, mas a proporção entre elas é inadequada, visto que Cenostigma pluviosum representa metade da população arbórea encontrada. Tem-se que 65,6% da população tem vigor médio apresentando boa saúde e poucos danos, 20% é vigorosa e 14,4% encontram-se debilitadas. Não há árvores mortas. A maioria das espécies são de grande porte representando o principal problema encontrado que é a incompatibilidade do tamanho das árvores com o espaço disponível na calçada. Do total de árvores, 27,6% necessitam de tratamento fitossanitário e, ou poda e 48,3% precisam ser substituídos por estarem levantando a calçada ou devido ao estado precário em que se encontram, consequência de podas drásticas realizadas com o objetivo de evitar interferências na rede elétrica e na sinalização. Embora não tenham sido encontrados grandes problemas referentes à qualidade das árvores, é aconselhável um melhor planejamento da arborização, com a escolha adequada de espécies que sejam compatíveis com o local onde serão implantadas e aplicando o manejo correto, para evitar problemas futuros.
