dc.descriptionFootball is undoubtedly an activity associated with our Brazilianness. He arrived timidly with Europeans who came to Brazil for work or with Brazilians who went to Europe to study. When they returned, these Brazilians brought a ball and some uniforms. Gradually it was taking over colleges and factories, fields were opened on vacant lots and soon it was drawing attention. The present work aims to present the development of the so-called Breton sport in the city of Uberlândia-MG, observing details of the emergence of the ball game until some traditional teams were consolidated in the 30s and 40s of the 20th century. Analyzing the newspapers A Tribuna, O Estado de Goyaz and Correio de Uberlândia, in addition to images and writings by memorialists, we can follow how the development of this sport in the city was, the main characters and their swoops in the social and political field. Finally, we followed the creation of the Uberlandia Football League, verifying the initial challenges and how the political role in its creation was relevant. dc.descriptionO futebol é sem dúvida uma atividade associada a nossa brasilidade. Chegou timidamente com europeus que vinham ao Brasil a trabalho ou com brasileiros que iam à Europa para estudar. Ao retornarem, esses brasileiros traziam uma bola e alguns uniformes. Aos poucos foram tomando conta de colégios e fábricas; campos eram abertos em terrenos desocupados e logo a prática do futebol despertou a atenção. O presente trabalho visa apresentar o desenvolvimento do chamado esporte bretão na cidade de Uberlândia-MG, observando detalhes do surgimento do jogo de bola até algumas equipes tradicionais se consolidarem nos anos 30 a 40 do século XX. Analisando os jornais A Tribuna, O Estado de Goyaz e o Correio de Uberlândia, além de imagens e escritos de memorialistas, podemos acompanhar como foi o desenvolvimento deste esporte na cidade, os principais personagens e suas rusgas no campo social e político. Por fim acompanhamos a criação da Liga Uberlandense de Futebol, verificando os desafios iniciais e como foi relevante o papel político em sua criação.
