The current paper aims to bring Criminology to the debate of criminal sanctions and those sanctions oriented to juvenile offenders. First, there is an exposure of the ideological perspectives that justify the imposition of prision time. After that, we present Criminology as a science that could have important impacts in our understanding of public punitive system, and then we present the Social Learning Theory, which is the theoretical reference. In the end, we suggest some changes that juvenile offenders system should undergo so that it is suitable to the criminological perspective here adopted.O presente artigo busca trazer a Criminologia para a discussão a respeito das penas e sanções destinadas aos infratores adolescentes. Em primeiro lugar há uma exposição das correntes que justificam a imposição de penas. Posteriormente apresentamos a Criminologia como ciência que pode ter impactos importantes em nossa compreensão do sistema punitivo estatal para, em seguida, apresentarmos a teoria do aprendizado social, que é marco teórico deste texto. Por fim, sugerimos as mudanças a que a execução infracional deveria ser submetida a fim de adequar-se às sugestões da corrente criminológica escolhida.
