Electrochemical reduction of nitrite at polymeric Co(II)-tetra-3-amino-phenyl-porphyrin modified electrode

dc.description | This paper describes the electrochemical reduction of nitrite ion in basic media 0.2M KHCO3, with glassy carbon or ITO electrodes modified with a conducting polymer derived from Co(II)tetra-3-aminophenyl-porphyrin. Cyclic voltammetry results show an enhancement in the current of the corresponding Co(II)/Co(I) redox couple when the solution contains 0.02M nitrite. When spectroelectrochemical experiments were performed in the support electrolyte, the modified electrode does not stabilize Co(I) oxidation state, but when there is nitrite in the solution a band at 549nm appears, indicating the stabilization of Co(I) oxidation state probably due to the formation of an intermediary complex between the Co(I) and nitrite. Controlled potential electrolysis experiments verify the production of ammonia and hydrazine even at very negative potentials, showing the electrocatalytic character and the stability of this modified electrode. | |
dc.description | Este artículo describe la reducción electroquímica del ion nitrito en medios básicos KHCO3 0.2M, con electrodos de carbón vítreo o ITO modificados con un polímero conductor derivado de Co(II)tetra-3-aminofenil-porfirina. Los resultados de la voltamperometría cíclica muestran una mejora en la corriente del par redox Co(II)/Co(I) correspondiente cuando la solución contiene nitrito 0,02 M. Cuando se realizaron experimentos espectroelectroquímicos en el electrolito de soporte, el electrodo modificado no estabiliza el estado de oxidación del Co(I), pero cuando hay nitrito en la solución aparece una banda a 549nm que indica la estabilización del estado de oxidación del Co(I) probablemente debido a la formación de un complejo intermediario entre el Co(I) y el nitrito. Experimentos de electrólisis de potencial controlado verifican la producción de amoníaco e hidrazina incluso a potenciales muy negativos, mostrando el carácter electrocatalítico y la estabilidad de este electrodo modificado. | |
