dc.descriptionIn his main work, Arthur Schopenhauer presents us a coherent and systematic theory of science. Nonetheless, amongst the natural sciences, there is one subject that, apparently, doesn't receive much attention from the philosopher: morphology. The goal of this paper is to situate morphology more precisely inside Schopenhauer's theory of science, pointing out the possible difficulties that the author might have met while trying to fit them consistently in the latter. To that end, we will firstly present the schopenhauerian theory of science in its more general traits; subsequently, we will try to gain a perspective on the many problems that involved morphology at the time, and on the way through which Schopenhauer introduces himself in this discussion. Thus, we will see that Schopenhauer is not at all a stranger to this debate, but that, on the contrary, it is possible to find reflexes of it throughout many moments of his thought, which transcend the scope of the mere theory of scienceen-US
dc.descriptionEm sua obra magna, Arthur Schopenhauer apresenta-nos uma teoria da ciência coerente e sistemática. No entanto, entre as ciências da natureza, há uma disciplina que, aparentemente, não recebe grande atenção da parte do filósofo: a morfologia. O presente trabalho propõe-se situar com maior precisão a posição da morfologia na teoria da ciência de Schopenhauer, apontando as possíveis dificuldades com que o autor ter-se-ia deparado ao tentar enquadrá-las de maneira consistente nesta última. Para tal, exporemos, primeiramente, a teoria da ciência schopenhaueriana em seus traços mais gerais; em seguida, tentaremos ganhar uma perspectiva sobre os muitos problemas que envolviam a morfologia à época e sobre a maneira pela qual Schopenhauer se insere nessa discussão. Assim, veremos que Schopenhauer não é absolutamente alheio a esse debate, mas que, pelo contrário, é possível encontrar reflexos do mesmo em diversos momentos de seu pensamento, que ultrapassam o escopo da mera teoria da ciência.pt-BR
